In Kandi, we conducted numerous visual screenings followed by cataract surgeries when needed, as well as distributions of appropriate glasses. Additionally, we provided organizational training in the emergency department of the zone hospital.

 

Furthermore, we established an optical workshop and a glasses retail store within the hospital under the direction of the ophthalmologist. We trained three optical assembly and sales workers and committed to providing them with free frameless glasses for as long as the association exists, aiming to reduce costs for the population. We also ensure the maintenance of the provided equipment and provide ongoing training for the optical department staff.

 

At the zone hospital, we supply medications for all departments. In Tori Bossito village, about forty kilometers from Cotonou, we conducted visual screenings and distributed three hundred pairs of appropriate glasses. We plan to return as needed.

 

In March 2024, our association, Solidarité Hospitalière, had the privilege of participating in a special inauguration event in Torri Bossito. In collaboration with another association, Regard du Monde, we contributed to the construction of a brand-new canteen at a local school. During the inauguration ceremony, we had the honor of representing our organization and delivering a speech highlighting the importance of this project for the school community. The schoolchildren also played a central role by welcoming us with joyful and inspiring songs.

 

This new canteen represents much more than just a building. It embodies a space for food, sharing, and growth for the schoolchildren. By replacing the old open-air canteen, this new infrastructure provides a more hygienic and safe environment for the children's meals. We firmly believe that such improvements not only contribute to the physical well-being of the students but also enhance their academic development by creating a conducive learning environment.

 

We are deeply grateful to have been able to participate in this initiative and to see the smiles on the children's faces as they discovered their new canteen. This event exemplifies our continued commitment to supporting local communities and working together for a better future for all.

The orphanage of Sainte Famille de Djeffa.

 

We are honored to contribute to the well-being of the children at the Sainte Famille de Djeffa orphanage, under the compassionate leadership of Brother Mesmin and his dedicated team of brothers. These 57 children, who may be orphaned by one or both parents, find much more than shelter here; they find a warm home where love and care are ever-present.

 

With our recent donations of educational games and clothing, we seek to commit to their growth and education.

 

Located near their school, the orphanage provides a familial environment where children can grow securely, surrounded by a loving community. But their vision extends beyond this: with the ambition to become self-sufficient by clearing a marshy part of their land to create a garden, and perhaps even a small farm in the future. This vision illustrates their commitment to providing children with a sustainable and prosperous future.
